If you suffer with an achy back, sore knees, tight shoulders, and hamstrings, you might consider taking a yoga class. A well-rounded Hatha Yoga class helps us move our joints safely and strengthens our muscles and bones. Many of the poses challenge our balance and help to prevent falls and fractures that so many seniors deal with on a daily basis.
In my Yoga classes, you do a mix of static and dynamic poses. The static is when you hold a pose to build strength, and dynamic is moving in and out of poses, linking mindful breathing with movement to build grace and stamina. Yoga is done in your bare feet to strengthen your feet and ankles, which helps with balance.
Yin Yang Yoga Flow is good for fit seniors who want to be challenged and are open to trying something new. Yin Yang Yoga Flow classes are Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m.
If you want no-flow Gentle Yoga, then come to Yoga for Healthy Aging on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. In this class we do poses standing, sitting, and lying on the mat. Poses are held to build strength and balance.
Beginners are welcome if they can get up from the floor without assistance. Please bring a yoga mat. If you forget, props like mats, blocks, straps, and blankets are also provided.
Both Yin Yang Yoga Flow and Yoga for Healthy Aging are safe for seniors who want to stay healthy and learn new ways to move, breathe, and relax.
The drop-in fee is $5 per class. You can pay with Venmo at Margaret-Parrish-9.
