Garden Club Members Enjoy Private Tour of the Historic Arizona Biltmore

The Sun Lakes Garden Club enjoyed two field trips in January, and 41 members enjoyed a private tour of the historic Arizona Biltmore Hotel and Gardens, built in 1929. It was a beautiful day, and members dined at the Adobe Grille at the Arizona Biltmore Golf Course. This restaurant is also a historic building, as it was the barn for the Wrigley Mansion.

The featured presenter for the March 17 meeting is Debra Thirkhill, a horticultural professor at ASU. Her topic for this meeting is “Grocery Store Gardening” where she’ll demonstrate how you can save money by planting a grocery store onion, herb, or veggie and pay less than paying retail at a plant store.

Guests are always welcome to attend a meeting or field trip. Guests may decide to become a member to enjoy field trips and receive our newsletter. Memberships are $20 per year, and a spouse or second member in the household is only $10 per year. The meetings start with socializing, refreshments, and greeting guests at 9:30 a.m., followed by a featured presentation and meeting until noon. Many members and guests also gather after the meeting for an optional lunch at a nearby restaurant. We meet every month on the third Tuesday at the Chapel Center, next door to the Sun Lakes All Faiths Community Church. It is located at 9230 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N., across the street from the Sun Lakes Country Club.
