Happenings in the Agave Quilters Guild

“Bohemia,” by Villa Rosa Designs

Debi Loofburrow

The Agavé Quilters Guild met on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club. After a brief business update, our guest speaker Justine Bishop, owner of Modern Quilting in Phoenix, introduced us to the whole idea of Modern Quilting with stunning examples. One quilt that got a great deal of interest from our group was the “Bohemia” quilt by Villa Rosa Designs, a Bargello quilt using an ombre fabric.

Our January speaker Jessica Dickinson, aka “Quilt Mama,” taught Curvalicious, a class with a wonderful mixture of new skills featuring scraps and new techniques. The end result was fantastic!

Our next meeting will be held on March 2, and our featured speaker will be Lori Schlage, manager of Chandler 35th Avenue Sew and Vac. Lori will be sharing the latest and greatest trends and tools in the quilting world with us. Agavé Quilters Guild is open to new members of all skill levels. Dues for the calendar year are $30, with a one-time $15 purchase of a name badge. When members attend meetings wearing their name badges, they are entered into our door prize raffles.

General meetings are held September through May on the first Wednesday of each month, at 1 p.m., in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, Phase 1, at 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd N., in Sun Lakes. Each meeting features a guest speaker, a brief business update from the board members, and a “show and tell” session allowing members to share their projects with the group.
