At the HOA No. 3 Board of Director’s meetings in August and September 2016, two Board resolutions were passed which approved the renovation and replacement of the aging sporting equipment that the Billiard’s Room has had in continuous play since the tables and other equipment were installed in 1997. The four non-regulation tables that were played on have had over six years of league play, which has been averaging about 25,000 games per year, so for at least the last six years (the league was formed in 2011) a count of games played in those years would be over 150,000 games of league pool. That number does not include games played by the HOA No. 3 members who are not members or our league. The renovations are to be completed by the end of October, in time for the league’s fifth annual Championships in 8-Ball and 9-Ball. This year’s Championships will begin with play on the four new Olhausen nine foot Regulation/Tournament tables, with Simonis 860 Tournament Blue Cloth, four new sets of Aramith Duramith Belgian Billiard Balls, eight new cues to replace the warped cues, and four new metal four light bars to accommodate the length of the new tables. Olhausen is the USA’s largest manufacturer of billiard tables! The new colors and new carpeting will surely make all HOA No. 3 residents proud to show their family or their friends what a great job was done by our HOA No. 3 Executive Directors; our staff and its contractors; and we all will have the opportunity to play on excellent equipment. Come on over and see the renovations. Enjoy a game of pool!
The fifth annual league Championships will begin on Wednesday, November 9 and will run daily from 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. through Saturday, November 12 at 5:30 p.m., when the final matches in 8 and 9-Ball will be completed in the seeded, double elimination tournament. The 14 league members who have confirmed that they will play in the 8-Ball tournament are Jerry “Slick” Vickery, Bill “Lucky” Lange, Wayne Newman, Bob “The Sword” Wilkinson, David “The Godfather” Mork, “Fast Eddie” Allen, Jim “The Mountie” Boyes, Randy “Ollie” Oliver, John “Mack” McHugh, Randy “The Coach” Bryan, Willie “The Wizard” Foster, Sonny “The Shine” Williams, Red “The Preacher” Boyles and Albert McCabe. The 14 league members who have confirmed that they will play in the 9-Ball tournament are Bill “Lucky” Lange, Jerry “Slick” Vickery, Larry “Cuestick” Stadler, John “Mack” McHugh, Brian “The Geek” Kretschman, Randy “OIlie” Oliver, Wayne Newman, Fritz “The Hole” Derheim, David “The Godfather” Mork, “Fast Eddie” Allen, Keith “The Rabbi” McDonald, Willie “The Wizard” Foster, Sonny “The Shine” Williams, and Joe “The Deputy” Petkus. As the current 8 and 9-Ball champion, Sam Gilman, has moved, we will crown a new champion! I can guarantee all that it will be an exciting play down to the championships on Saturday. With the opening of the new restaurant, Stone and Barrel and the renovations of the Billiard Room, it will be an exciting November. Now, let’s play pool!
