On March 17 the Men’s IronOaks Golf Association, known as the Niners, hosted a fundraiser for the Hamilton High School Boy’s Golf Team for a round of nine holes, with each of the 13 members of Hamilton partnered with a threesome of the Niners, resulting in 13 foursomes playing the Lakes Course. This was the second year for this event! The funds raised this year were in excess of $1,300 which was donated directly to the Hamilton High Boys Golf Team through the use of the Arizona State Tax Credit for Extracurricular Activities. For this year and last year combined, the Niners have contributed over $2,200 to the Boys Golf Team.

For many of the members of the Hamilton team, this was their first time on the Lakes Course, but as noted from their scores, the course par was matched or beaten by many of the players on their first outing here in Sun Lakes. Even Coach Steve Kanner got in a threesome as one of the members of Hamilton was still in Scotland and coach played! There were other members of the Hamilton team who did not play in our tournament due to an Arizona Invitational for High School players and one of those players came in first in the entire tournament. The members of Hamilton High Golf Team have handicaps ranging from two to eight, which is computed as an 18-hole handicap. The players from Hamilton and their 18-hole handicaps were Andrew Proctor 2, Ryan Sanchez 4, Max Yu 5, Jack King 7, Sascha Yu 7, Brian Luc 8, Caden Rice 8, Kanoah Cunningham 9, Noah Bates 10, Zach Anderson 12 and Jonathan Dwiyono 14. The Niners’ nine-hole handicaps ranged from eight to 20. The low score for a Niner was seven over par. One of the Hamilton players scored two under par! Oh, to be young again!

Several Niners who were unable to play did contribute and at the request of those who wish to remain anonymous in their name and contribution amount, no Niners’ names are published here. A great round of golf was had by all. At the conclusion of play, Papa John’s delivered 25 pizzas. During and after the consuming of the pizza’s, prizes were awarded by the Niners to the lowest scoring Hamilton member and Niners threesome combined gross score, and to the five lowest scores for the Hamilton team members, along with many other prizes contributed by the league. We are looking forward to next year, as is the coach as there will be new members of the Hamilton High Golf Team, as several current seniors will be graduating, some of whom have been offered or obtained full ride golf scholarships to some great name schools. The event has been scheduled again for March 23, 2017! Join the Niners and you too, can play with a possible future PGA player, as many league members have said since “These guys are good!” a trademark of the PGA tour. The future of golf is in good hands!
