IronOaks Pickle Barrel Classic

Mike Amato and Steve McCoy won the Gold medal for Men’s Doubles in the 3.5 division.

Over 100 players gathered at the IronOaks pickleball courts March 13 through 16 to compete in the inaugural IronOaks Pickle Barrel Classic!

Participants came from the communities of IronOaks, Cottonwood Palo Verde, and Sun Lakes Country Club. The event had categories for Women’s, Men’s, and Mixed Doubles events and enabled players to compete in round robin or double elimination play by skill levels.

The name Pickle Barrel Classic was chosen from entries from the IronOaks Pickleball Club members. Mike Amato submitted the winning name, stating that pickle barrels are made of oakwood, and the galvanized bands around the barrel are made of iron, thereby incorporating the Oakwood and Ironwood (IronOaks) name.

Unison Bank was the primary sponsor for the event, as well as Isagenix and Kolb Realty. Dr. Calvin Kwan, aka Dr. Pickleball, from Magnus Opus Mobile Pain Clinic was on hand to help treat players and spectators with muscle soreness and other muscle-related issues.

Overall, the first tournament was a lobbing success, and plans are already in the works for next year! Thanks to all those who supported us through play and as spectators!
