Chapter Commander Leon “Skip” Johnson

Hopefully, you all had an opportunity to spend some quality time over the summer months doing whatever works best, whether it be visiting new locations, meeting up with old friends, or just enjoying the local surroundings where there is so much to see and do. Every year around this time of the year as we approach Labor Day, things start to change in a hurry as the dormant activities suddenly come back to life and with the expectations of the arrival of that wonderful weather that we’ve been waiting for that is only days away. Local clubs start resuming their activities or address new plans for the future, many part-time residents noticeably return to the area, schools are back in session, and the restaurants and community activities are once again drawing larger-than-normal crowds.

Typically, over the years, our club would stop meeting during the summer on a monthly basis and would pick up again shortly after Labor Day in September. Over the past year and a half, with the arrival of the coronavirus, like so many clubs, changes had to be made to ensure that the membership and those outside the membership of the club can be in as safe an environment as possible. At this time, club plans are to continue to proceed with caution, with hope to get back to our regularly-scheduled meetings as soon as it is feasible. This is currently being targeted for sometime within the September timeframe, and once a decision is made by the Chapter Commander, be assured that all the current membership will be made aware in a timely manner of any new decisions that have been finalized regarding times and locations of future activities.

During these tough times, our club recognizes that the unexpected can happen at any time, and our primary focus these days is to be available to help those in time of need. In the event of an emergency, we are only a phone call away, and we maintain an assortment of medical equipment that is easily accessible from our storage area. For additional information regarding any of this, please feel free to call our Chapter Commander at the telephone number listed below. He will be happy to answer any questions you may have or put you in touch with somebody who may be better able to assist you to satisfy a particular need that may have recently surfaced.

The club, throughout the summer months, has continued to meet for lunches on a weekly basis each Tuesday at 2 p.m. at IHOP, and the response has been extremely good. All members are welcome, and interested parties can contact Skip for additional details. If you are a member planning on attending for the first time, it may be nice to let Skip know just as a courtesy, as the group has grown considerably, and it does place a large demand on the restaurant management. For location purposes, lunches are held weekly at IHOP located in the Target Shopping Center off of Arizona Avenue, just north of Ocotillo. Our Chapter Commander Leon “Skip” Johnson can be reached by phone at 970-481-3005.
