Sun Lakes – Cottonwood Palo Verde at Sun Lakes

Message from the President

Roger Beagle

September is the time our committees start meeting again. Our community always needs homeowner input and participation. You can be of great benefit to the community, board, and management with your knowledge and expertise by serving on a committee. Applications are available at Homeowner Services or online at www.cottonwoodpaloverde.com.

In the past, September was always a signal of the end of summer for most of the country. We went back to school, and vacations were over. The northern part of the States and Canada started experiencing much cooler temperatures and saw the changing of the leaves.

Currently, we find our grandchildren, for the most part, have started back to school. Vacations are not necessarily only during the summer months, and in Arizona, it is still summertime.

Fall weather is closer to becoming a reality. We are closer to seeing returning homeowners and friends from their summer homes and adventures. We are glad to see them return and look forward to spending time together this winter.

Our monsoon season for this summer gave us daytime and late evening rainstorms, with higher-than-normal humidity. The rain was certainly welcome to cool off the daytime heat. Our golf courses and greenbelts have greatly benefited. Overseeding of the golf courses and greenbelts could be fantastic this year if the rains continue. The surrounding mountains and hillsides show us that the desert does flourish and thrive with rain.

Some updated community improvements will be coming soon. Palo Verde bar and restaurant will be updating the décor, interior painting, replacing and remounting televisions, and adding a new video system with two projectors. Construction remodeling of the old Fitness Center will also begin.

Our Fitness Center has new hours of operation: Monday through Thursday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Please continue to enjoy your summer and use of our amenities. Always stay safe and be healthy!

The date is Saturday, Nov. 6, at 9 a.m. at the greenbelt across from the Cottonwood tennis courts. We will have our annual Pep Rally for this event on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, in the San Tan Ballroom at 5:30 p.m. (registered walkers only). The cost will be the same as the 2019 Fun Walk, $20 for short-sleeve t-shirts and $25 for long-sleeve t-shirts. Hot dogs outside to follow this event, giving time for everyone to reminisce with each other.

Free Annual Christmas Golf Cart Parade and Show

It’s never too early to think about the annual Christmas Golf Cart Parade and Show. Friday, Dec. 3,  is the special day. We start at Palo Verde at 5 p.m. for free hot turkey soup, crackers, and drinks. There will also be the judging of the golf carts, and Maddy Pascal will be there to lead us all in Christmas songs. Mr. and Mrs. Claus and all the gang will be on hand for some great photos. At about 6:15 p.m., the parade of golf carts and cars will make their way to Cottonwood’s San Tan Ballroom for our 7 p.m. Christmas Show. There you will be treated to cookies, hot coffee, cocoa, and apple cider. All Sun Lakes homeowners and guests are invited. This is Cottonwood and Palo Verde’s Christmas gift to the community.

Rover’s Rest Stop

Rover’s Rest Stop is back with us again! Dee will be bringing some very adorable, furry little friends who are dying to find themselves a forever home—and they deserve that. Please come check out these Kids, as she always refers to them, on the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon. On real hot, cold, or rainy days, they’ll be in Cottonwood’s A-6 Dance Room. On really nice days, they’ll be at the greenbelt across from the Cottonwood tennis court. Dee takes great care in matching the perfect little dog with the perfect family!
