The Palo Verde Ladies Golf Association (PVLGA) took on the heat in June and really sizzled. Let me tell you how.

6/4. O-N-E-S Tournament. The ladies used only their scores on the holes starting with O-N-E-S toward their final scores, even though they played a full round. Someone, like this ol’ gal, could score well on the holes that counted but not necessarily have a great round. I’m not complaining though! The winners were Flight 1: Jan Hawkes, Mary Nelson and Bonnie Moore (tied – 32); Flight 2: Laura Carothers (31.5), Diane Kruse (32) and Marsha Deuel, Wanda Johnson and Diana Ridd (tied – 32.5); Flight 3: Liz DeMichael (28), Kay Berner and Dolores Mahaffey (tied – 30.5). Well played, ladies!

6/11. Select-a-Drive Tournament. The second tournament of the month was a 4-person Select-a-Drive. All players teed off, selected the best drive to hit from and then played their individual ball for the rest of the hole. The team winners were First: Dolores Allard, Anita Barber, Lois Fitzsimmons and June Park (90); Second: Laura Carothers, Judy Dingledine, Elaine Isaacson and Carol Ruff (91); Third: Liz DeMichael, Carole Elliott, Jan Nelson and Jan Stuckey (94). Great scores, teams!

6/18. T’s & F’s. Yep! You guessed it. Only those holes beginning with the letters “T” and “F” counted toward the ladies’ final score, even though they played a full round. The winners were Flight 1: Billie Seiberling (23.5), Bonnie Moore (27) and Gwen Curtis and Carol Ruff (tied – 27.5); Flight 2: Jerry Jordan (22.5), Diana Ridd (24) and Susie Buell (25); Flight 3: Dolores Mahaffey (21.5), Liz DeMichael (24) and Rita Raymond (25.5).

6/25. Fun Day. This 9-hole event was set up for the ladies to play a different format on every hole. Examples included aiming for the bunker and if you went in, it was a hole-in-one (#2) or using a driver to putt (#4). Brooks Koepke even took a break from the PGA tour to “hit our tee shot” on the 7th hole. We all shot our second shot from that point. What a nice young man to “hit” such a good drive for us. The team winners were First: Anita Barber, Pat Kreiling and Christy Thomas; Second: Gail Assenmacher, Jo Ann Hicks and Carol Ruff; Third: Dolores Allard, Kay Bemer and Lois Fitzsimmons. Thanks to the event organizers for putting together our Fun Day!

As a side note, the Second Flight of last month’s Match Play was won by Sherri Butler.
