Did you know that doing Restorative Yoga can help improve your quality of sleep? And did you know that getting adequate (and quality) sleep can boost your immune function? Those sound like two really good reasons to give Restorative Yoga a try!
Restorative yoga is a gentle, therapeutic style of yoga focused on stretching and deep relaxation. Unlike more active yoga styles, restorative yoga uses props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, and straps to fully support your body in each pose, allowing you to completely relax without effort. After class last week, Jan R. commented “I always feel so much better after class, I really need this!”
Restorative Yoga offers many benefits, including:
Improved Sleep: By calming the mind and body, it can enhance sleep quality and help with insomnia.
Boost Immune Function: Rest and quality sleep promote optimal immune system function, which can help the body to heal.
Here’s a pose that you can try at home: Supported Child’s Pose (Balasana)
* Kneel on the floor, big toes touching, knees wide apart.
* Place a bolster, cushion, or rolled blanket between your knees.
* Lower your torso onto the support, turning your head to one side.
* Rest your arms alongside the bolster.
* Hold for two to five minutes, switching the head turn halfway through.
Please join Elise for Restorative Yoga! Class is done on the floor and is suitable for all fitness levels. Blocks and straps are provided, please bring a mat and blankets. Feel free to bring other things from home that you can use for props such as towels, bolsters, or cushions. There is a fee to attend classes at Cottonwood/Palo Verde. $5 per class or $20 for five classes.
Classes at Cottonwood/Palo Verde: Monday and Friday, 10 a.m,
IronOaks Wellness Center: Thursday, 10 a.m.
Hope to see you there!
