Sew-N-Sews

Judy Wilson displaying one of her beautiful embroidered quilts

Sew-N-Sews is a club for sewing enthusiasts who enjoy working with any type of fiber arts. Our general meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club. Our business meeting starts at 1 p.m. (the exceptions are for our Christmas and Spring luncheons, which start at noon). Guests are welcome to attend two meetings before joining. New membership is open to all Sun Lakes residents.

At our March meeting, we were treated to a trunk show by Judy Wilson. Judy displayed some of her collection of the quilts she has made combined with embroidery. Her choice of color in the fabrics, along with the colors of the embroidery threads, was stunning. Our members were in awe and inspired by her presentation. Thank you, Judy, for your wonderful presentation.

One of our favorite parts of the meeting is our Show and Tell where members display items they have made. We have an area at our general meetings, called the stash table, where members place fabric and other sewing items they are donating to anyone who wants them. Often, our Show and Tell includes items made from fabric picked up at the stash table.

In addition to our general meeting, we have several charity and friendship groups and offer classes to our members. Some new special interest groups are Pillowcases for Foster Children, which meets the fourth Wednesday of each month, and the Cricut (die cutting machines) group, which meets the second Thursday of each month. Both groups meet at 1 p.m. in the Sewing Room.

Recent classes included the Zip and Go purse taught by Rita Grant and a Cork purse taught by Peggy Morris. There were some great purses made, and lots of fun was had. Members may sign up for classes at the general meeting.

Our next meeting will be the Spring Luncheon on April 13 and will begin at noon. At that meeting, we will also have our raffle drawing for a donated Pfaff sewing machine. Raffle tickets are $5 for the machine, which has an estimated value of $300. If you want to buy a raffle ticket and cannot come to the next meeting, please contact us at our email address.

We welcome new members. The new-member fee is $25, which includes the first-year membership and a Sew-N-Sews name badge. We hope to see you there. You may contact us at [email protected].
