Three positions are open on the Sun Lakes Community Theatre (SLCT) Board of Directors. Two are for three-year terms, and one is for a two-year term. The election for all three positions will be held at the March 9 general meeting, held at Cottonwood’s Saguaro Room at 6 p.m. The board has the responsibility to provide leadership, decision-making, and financial oversight for SLCT. The board meets on the second Tuesday of the month via Zoom. Any SLCT member in good standing may run for one of the three positions by contacting the current vice president of SLCT, Kate King-Turner, and expressing their interest. Sun Lakes Community Theatre is a 501(c) non-profit seniors organization dedicated to providing accessible and affordable live theater performances for the Sun Lakes community. Volunteer actors, directors, technicians, and support staff present three main stage productions each year (spring, summer, and fall) at the Cottonwood and Oakwood ballrooms, ranging from comedies to Broadway plays to serious dramas and dinner-theater. In addition, SLCT’s unique Children’s Theatre troupe performs Dr. Seuss’ Horton plays in colorful costumes in the Chandler elementary schools. Also, The ImproVables, SLCT’s “make-it-up” improvisational comedy community outreach, SLCT also supports the local Chandler Unified District high school Drama Departments with yearly grants and individual scholarships. The board oversees all of these activities and liaisons with their various directors.
