Restorative Yoga classes

Noell Hyman

When I was in school learning about exercise and health, the emphasis was on muscles, weight and bones. Or maybe that was just what I focused on; I do not remember hearing much about the importance of care for the joints, the spine and the nerves at that time. But we all get to a point where we definitely do start hearing about the joints, spine and nerves. Unfortunately, that point usually arrives because of pain and/or limited mobility.

But there is some good news! We can reverse some of the results of our unintended neglect, and we can prevent future difficulties. Yoga is an ideal exercise for joints, for the spine and even for the nervous system. In a yoga class, we move the joints and the spine healthfully and safely, and we learn to breath in ways that calm and soothe the nerves.

I am part of a team of four teachers who are excited to bring a lot more yoga to seniors in the Sun Lakes area. Members who have been taking our initial classes are loving it and are ready for more. We are now providing different types of yoga classes, spread throughout the week. Join fellow seniors and teachers Kary, Chris, Brianne or Noell (myself) for fun, healthy, relaxing and rejuvenating yoga.

All classes are in Cottonwood Room A-6 (the dance room), and the price is $5 per class. The schedule is below. For questions, please call or text Kary Sinkule at 480-861-3788 or email her at [email protected].
