Congratulations to manager Vern Rodgers and his First Response Roofing squad for running away with the Lakes Division Spring pennant, compiling an impressive 15-3 record. That was six games better than manager Gary Hillabolt’s Young Home Team. Manager. Kim Van Nausdle’s Robson Reserve team finished third with a “corner convenience store record” of 7-11 while Dave Kratz’s A-1 Golfers went 5-13.
Manager Marty Hobby’s Wolfe and Associate team won the Sun Division title with a 10-4 record, three games in front of manager Barron Liebert’s Redeemed Team. Manager Ron Carmichael’s Camp Hilby squad finished at 6-8 while manager Mike Gloyd’s Spooner PT crew finished in the cellar at 5-9.
Doug Friesen won the Lakes Division batting title with a.770 average. The remainder of the top ten were Bob Molter (.758), Doug Warwick (.742), Bob Montelione (.732), Vern Rodgers (.720), Dick Bleich and Dennis LePore (both at .704), Dan Malachuk (.695), Billy Jacobson (.682) and Frank Rouse (.663). Jacobson was the homerun leader with six.
In the Sun Division George Siegele won the title in the closest race ever, edging Gino Fiasche .798 to .797. They were followed by Frank Scarpelli (.758), Marty Hobby (.756), Brian Denham (.740), Mike Aldridge (.737), Barron Liebert (.722), Bill Davenport (.721), Craig Porchardt (.713) and Dave Platt (.712). Gino set an all-time homerun record, smashing 84 bombs. George Siegele hit 41 while Gordon Leatherbarrow, Dennis Henderson, Barron Leibert and Brian Denham all topped 20 HRs.
Our Summer League got underway on May 5 and continues through September. Summer League managers are Gary Hillabolt, Larry Maggard and Dan Malachuk. Brad Wendt is the Summer travel team manager. Umpires are Joe Byrne, Dennis Kennedy, Craig Porchardt, Alex Santucci and Jim Vogel. The chief scorer/scoreboard operator is Cyndy Hilby, assisted by Dave Kratz, coordinator. Thanks to all these volunteers.
